What to Do if You are Hurt on the Job

If you are injured at work, get assistance form medical personnel as soon as possible. Go to a company medical facility if one is onsite. If you are uncertain on what to do, contact your employer’s HR department for assistance on what to do and how to report the incident.

If applicable, report the incident to a supervisor or an employer’s medical department to ensure that a written report of the incident is recorded correctly.

The website of the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board offers some general information that would serve as an excellent checklist to keep in mind.

  • Follow doctor’s instructions to speed full recovery.
  • Attend an Independent Medical Examination if you are required to do so.
  • Go back to work as soon as you are able.
  • Attend such hearings as may be held in the case, when you are notified to appear.
